Plaster Word-cast Project
Concept:
Using a single word as an influence create a sculpture out of form(s) casted from plaster
Materials:
Anything enclosed
that can hold liquid and weight, examples are:
-plastic bags, balloons, bubble wrap (cool texture), paper cups, rubber ice
trays, cookie molds, cardboard boxes,
Approach:
Look up your word and write brainstorm what you may associate with that word. Illuminate don’t illustrate the direct meaning of the word. For example of the word is “hairy” don’t make hair, think of what hair is? How hair is perceived? Survival? Warmth? Fashion? Age? Next. Skech ideas, think, but don’t think too much, work. Ideas come from working. Think and work simultaneously. Cast several forms and experiment / explore different options to assemble / create your sculpture. You may alter, break up, sand or leave alone each caste you create. Consider texture and light. Try stacking, spreading, or joining each caste. Again, experiment and explore.
