Below are timed figure studies: 1-5 minute poses (also known as gesture drawing)
Here one focuses on the interior then builds the exterior of the form.

 

 

 

 

Below is a continuation of "gesture drawing", consider layering figures to create a compostion similar to the rythm of musical notes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Below is a continious line study. The pencil never leaves the surface during the short pose. Notice the energy and movement the line creates.

 

 

 

Below is an example of strait-line construction. This is a good approach to learning about planes throughout the figure as demonstrated below this drawing.

 

 

 

 

Below is applied a planal study of the figure. Notice the student is now applying value to the form in a continious line fashion.

 

 

 

Below is a loose/awkward contour line drawing. Notice how the line is smooth, continious, and slow.
