Individual Cubes

First, build a cube out of little cubes. Then begin to randomly eliminate individual cubes.
As you erase individual cubes, you can start to think about balance, space, and visual weight.
By eliminating cubes you can open visual paths through the form.
Imagine you are a small person walking through the forms; does it feel open and spacious?
Experiment with several visual possibilities.

Connected Cubes

Single Structures
Below are 19 individual structures composed inside 19 isometric cubes.

Below is an example of how a contemporary artist (Clark Goolsby) uses isometric angles to within his work.
Also notice the use of color, pattern (tessellation shape), line, implied line, plane, form, text, careful craftsmanship vs. accidental splatter, layering, balance, ambiguous space, etc.

Additional forms that can influence your project.

Select a form to enlarge and apply value using a variety of gray markers.
Create transparency using markers (YouTube video, illustrating using markers)
Prior to applying value figure out what values will go onto what plane. Number each plane a value.
For example: consider what direction the light source is coming from and use that to apply the values.
The plane facing the sunlight should have the lightest value, we will label that number 1 (your lightest value),
The plane opposite of the light source should have the darkest value (if you are using a 4 step value scale, this should be labeled a number 4 value)
Also, consider the shadow (use your text to find how to apply a shadow).
Please note that your shadow should not be too dark (possibly a number 1 value).
Depending on the value of the surface the shadow is on dictates the value of the shadow.
Essentially, the shadow is one step darker than the value of the surface.

SPEED DRILLS
Isometric Drawing 3 (YouTube demonstrating speed drills)
Select a form to draw quickly without using measuring tools and straight edges.
Similar to the youtube videos you will rapidly draw the form you selected 5 times.
Select another form, again, draw five times.
SPEED DRILLS: TIMED
now draw one of the two forms you selected in 3 minutes
same form in 2 mins
same form in 1 min
same form in 30 seconds.
NOW!
loosen up and apply both techniques
Finally, make a final precise drawing, in marker, of one of the forms. Use this link as a reference MARKER DRAWING
Onto perspective..

Below are isometric projections which are different view points to understand all three dimensions of a form (height, width, and depth = H x W x D).

Contour line transparent form invention.

The concept behind these drawings
is to show the interior and exterior of the structure.
Notice how you can see all the interior lines as if the form is transparent.
Essentially, you must show the lines as they cross through the form.
Lastly, apply a variety of line-weight throughout the structure.
LINE WEIGHT: Interior lines are lighter than the exterior; also, what is closer to you is darker than what is further away.
