Materials:
-Paynes grey (no color)
-13 x 17 inches arches watercolor paper
-H4 or H3 pencil
-3 / 4 inch flat brush, experiment with other brushes too.
-water, palette, etc.
Objective:
Your objective is to demonstrate a solid flat wash along with a series of flat
glazes. The end result will yeild 3 separate values of watercolor washes/glazes
including an untouched white shape (white of the paper). View the image above
for a visual example.
Approach:
1. Using your 3H (hard pencil) draw two overlapping amorphous shapes onto your
surface.
-label the shapes (shape 1, and shape 2)
2. Apply a light even wash over the entire surface except on part of shape #1(leave
the area that is not overlapped white, the white of the paper).
-Allow to dry completely
3. Apply a flat wash over shape # 2
-Allow to dry completely
4. Apply a flat wash over shape # 2 (only the part that is not overlapped)
